SPECIAL GUESTS
The Waiting Room

London-based art pop experimentalists Ilk have teamed up with acclaimed composer and producer Matthew Herbert on their debut album, ‘Y U’, exploring the space in which found-sound recordings and infectious pop music coexist.

The first sound to be shared is the eponymously named track ‘Y U’. As if tuning into a lost 1970’s sci-fi broadcast, the album’s lead single then takes you on a mad four minute lo-fi adventure of surreal lyrics, hypnotic distorted sounds, polyrhythmic layers of kitchen sink percussion and homemade thumb pianos.   ‘Y U’ is a bold and joyous introduction to the world of Ilk.

Ilk comprises Bob Tollast (vocals, bass, guitar), Olly Puglisi (guitar, bass, SPD sampler, backing vocals) and Tom Fisher (MPC sampler, keys, bass, backing vocals).

£8 ADV 8PM

We’re excited that Baio will be at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington on 19 July!

Baio, the solo project of Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio, followed up a string of EPs (Mira EP, Sunburn EP) with his full-length debut, The Names, in September 2015. Chris’ solo work is a continuation of his time as a college radio DJ, where he first fell in love with electronic music. “What I wanted to feel with this record was that it’s not a band record, it’s not a solo record and it’s not a producer record, but a combination of all three. I wanted to create a space where almost anything could happen”.

Doug Hream Blunt is an ethereal, elusive character.
With fans ranging from Ariel Pink to his namesake Dean Blunt, the San Francisco resident’s cult mythology as a ‘funk outsider’ continues to grow, almost to the same levels as William Onyeabor, partly due to the sheer scarcity of live shows that he plays anywhere, let alone in the UK.

For this rare appearance he will be bringing the Luaka Bop family to DJ, alongside some very special guests that will be revealed on the night.

A mystical genius, this is a one off opportunity to catch a true maverick in person.

THE DEATH OF POP

FREE 8PM

Hailing from Madrid, Baywaves have been gaining attention across Europe with their perfectly-crafted hypnotic, psychedelic pop songs. Their debut EP, Only For Uz, mixed by King Gizzard guitarist Joe Walker, was released on Foehn Records last year, attracting early support from BBC 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft. With over half a million plays on the lead track, the success of the EP landed the band slots at Primavera Sound, Benicàssim, NOS Alive and End Of The Road, where they were awarded Best New Band. Sold out shows in London, Brighton, Paris and Berlin followed, and the band kicked off 2017 with a performance at Eurosonic, plus a headline slot at The Line Of Best Fit’s Ones To Watch ‘Forecast’ shows.

Baywaves will be bringing their powerful live show to London on Thursday 6th July, with a headline show at Stoke Newington’s The Waiting Room.

Support comes from The Death of Pop.
