The brainchild of Kody Nielson, formerly of acclaimed “trouble gum art punks” The Mint Chicks , Opossom have produced the exceptional and captivating album ‘Electric Hawaii’, which is due for release in August.

The first single from the album will be “Blue Meanies”, a synth-led, bass heavy psych odyssey with a surreal, semi-animated video shot amid beautiful woodland scenery, featuring fantastical creatures, adventurous hikers and golden Buddhas with laser beam eyes. The b-side features Kody’s slow-fi, dub remix of the track.

2 For the Road and Eat Your Own Ears present FRANCOIS AND THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS at the Village Underground in October.

Meet François Marry – a multi-talented songwriter, musician, animator and artist, hailing from Saintes, a small town on the west coast of France who goes under the name of Fránçois and The Atlas Mountains. Frànçois moved to Bristol from France in September 2003. Over the past few years, François has recorded a couple of albums and EPs, released through Too Pure and Fence Records and has performed around the globe with Camera Obscura, Electrelane, Anna Calvi and King Creosote & Jon Hopkins. Originally an open collective, Fránçois and The Atlas Mountains has become over the years, a four-piece band and have recently signed to Domino Records. Matching French lyrics to African rhythms, the band’s distinctive songwriting is whimsically surreal with a real joyous side, sheer, un-repressed fun. ‘E Volo Love’ (released on Jan 23rd on Domino) is a beautiful collection of Gallic chamber-pop and chanson with rich piano chords, shimmering electric guitars and an all-female polyphonic vocal group creating a colorful sound.

EAT YOUR OWN EARS PRESENTS KISSABILITY VS. BEST FIT RECORDINGS FEATURING FAYE

An artist whose sound is described as understated, evocative, catchy and commanding, Best Fit Recordings are extremely proud to announce the signing of Swedish siren FAYE to their family of artists, a songstress whose perfect blend of electronica and pop leaves an indelible impression upon all who listen in.

The story behind Swedish vocalist Faye Hamlin is by no means a usual one. How many singers can say that they spent their adolescence touring the world with the likes of Destiny’s Child and Aaron Carter as one quarter of hugely successful, multi-million selling all-girl group Play? Not many.

And even fewer have been able to go on to create music with as much integrity and stylistic prowess as that in which Faye is so naturally and brilliantly releasing today.

Alongside long time friends and musical partners, Swedish production powerhouse Montauk, FAYE, formerly known as Fanny, is set to unveil her latest single, the dynamic, compelling and addictive ‘Water Against The Rocks’ on 25 June. Blending FAYE’s pristine vocals and sumptuous harmonies with gleaming synths and a seamless electronic backdrop, ‘Water Against The Rocks’ is the stunning sonic representation of FAYE breaking away from her pop roots and embarking on a much deeper, more personal and highly adventurous musical journey.

“The most important thing is that I do it myself and no one is making decisions for me… I want to use my vocals in a different way, and it’s a wonderful feeling for me to be able to make my own sound. It’s important for me to do this my own way,” states the inspired songstress of her new musical venture with that same air of surety and conviction that flows throughout her latest offering.

‘Water Against The Rocks’ marks a true departure from FAYE’s pop roots, although there are irresistible hooks, soaring, euphoric vocals and solid, rousing beats and baselines aplenty. The most honest, pure and musically ambitious project from the singer so far, with this latest collection of tracks, FAYE is finally able to showcase her true, resplendent and unforgettable musical colours.

‘Water Against The Rocks’ will be released digitally through Best Fit Recordings on 25 June (under exclusive license from Hybris). A limited Edition 7″ featuring the single, as well as track ‘Come To Me’ will be released in July, with a debut album due to drop later this year.

One Little Plane is folk artist Kathryn Bint. Hailing from Chicago, Bint’s music has been described as “gently wistful, dust-kicking psychedelia” and “dreamy heart warming folk” with “simple, heartfelt melodies”.

Kathryn Bint follows her perfectly formed debut Until (2008) with an album that reveals her remarkable range as a musician and songwriter. Her tender vocals still send husky shivers down the spine, but Into The Trees is so much more than beautiful folk songs.

This is an optimistic record in which “hope stretches out like a leaf”. Recorded in 2010 at Bryn Derwen studios in North Wales, while Bint was pregnant with her first child, these songs are imbued with a tangible determination and hope. As she sings on ‘Simmer Down Simmer’: “We’ll ride until we fall and then get back up”.

Bint was born in Australia, grew up in Chicago, and moved to London nine years ago, where she began writing songs in earnest. After the release of Until, she got together with Henry Scowcroft and Lucy Jamieson, with whom she toured Europe and played festival dates.

Produced by Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Into The Trees weaves a fabric of different sounds, united by Bint’s elegiac voice and strong storytelling. Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood lends the album his bass powers, and tracks like ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘I Know’ rock with a swagger that surprises and yet fits perfectly with the whole. The musicianship of Scowcroft and Jamieson is on full display as the record moves deftly from the acoustic warmth of ‘Hold You Down’ to the sunshine pop of ‘Simmer Down Simmer’ to the dreamy synth of final track ‘Synthesizer’. Hebden’s touch is a delicate one; there is a modesty and clarity to these songs that speaks to the confidence and judgment of those involved. ‘If You Ask’ is so simple and clean that no extra seasoning is required.

Hebden’s influence is most apparent on ‘Bloom’—a spare, electronic piece with the precision of his Four Tet work—and yet this track is the heart of the album, encapsulating its central themes of people among nature. Lovers intertwine like vines, asleep beneath a canopy of trees, holding hands in leaves of grass. These songs are Whitman-esque odes to man’s place in the natural world; they remind us to stop and listen, to live in the moment. As we hear on the album opener ‘She Was Out In The Water’: “Honey, I don’t believe in majesty or things that you compare, I just want to be here now tasting the salty sea air.”

And yet, there is majesty in these songs. In ‘It’s Alright’, One Little Plane suggests “we reach for something like stars”. This is pure modesty; Into The Trees most definitely reaches for stars, and it touches them too.
