As recently intimated on social media, the musician Chet Faker has forgone his alias and will now write, produce, record and perform under his real name, Nick Murphy – symbolising a significant musical evolution for the artist.
He shares a preview of this new sound on the track ‘Fear Less’, an electrifying mix of past and new influences: http://nickmurphymusic.com/
Nick Murphy is set to perform a dynamic new show, pulling from his existing catalogue and showcasing new material at his London Brixton Academy show on 9th November.

SOLD OUT
After an incredible sold out show at Electric Ballroom at the end of last year, we’re thrilled to welcome back Peaches for 2 nights at Oval Space in November!
Sarah Neufeld is a violinist and composer based in Montréal, Canada. Best known as a member of Arcade Fire, she is also a founding member of the acclaimed contemporary instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre, and most recently as half of an exciting new duo with renowned saxophonist Colin Stetson.
On February 26, 2016 Sarah Neufeld released her second full length album, The Ridge. It is a body of work that sees Neufeld moving away from her debut Hero Brother’s classical minimalism and sepulchral ambience, and into the world of rhythmic pop minimalism. The new album employs more emphasis on vocalizations than Neufeld’s previous works; the interplay between Neufeld’s voice and violin has become strongly integrated and narrative. The album also features Arcade Fire’s Jeremy Gara on drums, adding greater layers to the compositions, creating an intense, dynamic atmosphere, and a captivating listen from start to finish.
In 2016, Neufeld will be touring extensively in support of The Ridge and we’re super excited to welcome her to the Lexington on 8 November, where she will be joined by drummer Stefan Schneider.
If you missed them at Oslo and Field Day earlier in the year, here’s your chance to catch the brilliant Junior Boys at Corsica Studios on 7 November
We’re thrilled to announce that Ibibio Sound Machine will headline the final night of our Rough Trade series.
They will be joined by South London trio Peluché and Brooklyn act Pavo Pavo.
As part of our Rough Trade 40th Anniversary series we have joined up with London’s infamous Cosey Club to bring you a special club night featuring Australian experimental electronic band Severed Heads, seminal Philadelphia band Crash Course in Science, and DJ sets from legendary producer Trevor Jackson and Cosey Club founder Richard Clouston.
Severed Heads formed in 1979 in Sydney and have made numerous incredible records that have been a huge inspiration in electronic dance music from EBM to Chicago House and Detroit Techno.
Trevor Jackson has been at the forefront of audio and visual culture for nearly 30 years. From creating record sleeves for seminal hip hop, house, and techno to remixing 100’s of artists including Massive Attack, Dinos Chapman, Metronomy, Tiga and The Cure.
In the perfect surroundings of the dark and industrial Electrowerkz, the club night will run from 10pm-4am.
As part of our series of events celebrating Rough Trade’s 40th anniversary, we are very excited to have legendary band The Raincoats collaborating with Angel Olsen in the beautiful surroundings of Islington Assembly Hall. The Raincoats spoke to us about what the night means to them:
“When Nina Hervé from Rough Trade approached The Raincoats last autumn to ask us to take part in Rough Trade’s 40th Anniversary for a collaboration with a contemporary independent artist there was no doubt in our minds who that should be. We had just got back from seeing Angel Olsen perform two amazing shows in Portugal, which totally blew us away. It was a perfect meeting and nothing can compare to experiencing such a remarkable woman perform. She was indeed the only one and it made our hearts race.
Our relationship with Rough Trade goes back 40 years to 1976 when the shop in Kensington Park Road opened and that relationship has been one of the longest and most precious in our history. The Raincoats recorded their first single with Rough Trade in 1979 and four studio albums were produced through an extraordinary partnership.
Angel is about to release her stunning third album ‘My Woman’ in September and has made time in her touring schedule to get together with us. She is one of the most talented and special artists around and this collaboration is a dream come true for us all – the excitement we feel about this collaboration is breath-taking and it just can’t be missed.”
We are very pleased to present Hello Operator at Sebright Arms for a free show on 3rd Nov. Support comes from Cupids.
As well as the exciting one off collaborations between artists old and new in the Rough Trade anniversary series, we are pleased to be able to showcase some of the most exciting up and coming bands. Featuring two nights at Rough Trade East, as well as all day events at the Shacklewell Arms and new Hackney venue the Moth Club.
Mysterious south London bands HMLTD. and Goat Girl join up for the second Rough Trade in-store. They’ve both been causing a stir on the live circuit and we’re excited to see them again!
