CHVRCHES today announce a major UK tour for March 2014, culminating in their biggest UK headline show to date at The Forum, London.

In little more than twelve months CHVRCHES have come out of nowhere to be everywhere. There’s a lot to catch up on since they posted their first song, LIES, online last spring – a place in the top five of the BBC Sound of 2013, sell out headline tours in the UK and US, a triumphant, award-winning appearance at SXSW and a string of stadium dates with Depeche Mode, to name but a few.

Praise for The Bones of What You Believe:
“Every track is a potential single” – 9/10, Clash
“Twelve equally matched moments of varied tone but consistent brilliance” – 9/10, DIY
“Proudly individualistic, heart-warmingly intelligent and beautifully intonated” – 4*, Q magazine
“Not a weak song among them” – 8/10, NME
“A rare and beautiful thing: astute, seductive and sly” – 4*, MOJO
“There’s so much to love” – 8/10, Drowned in Sound

Combining wistful melodies, keyboards that quietly fizz in the backdrop of her finger-picked guitar murmurs and lo-fi bumps and whistles, all infused with a wondrous Nordic iciness, the Norwegian songstress Farao might beguile like Radiohead and haunt like PJ Harvey, but make no mistake about it – she is a bright new talent in her own right. Her debut EP was recorded in Iceland with Mike Lindsay from Brit experimenters Tunng /Cheek Mountain Thief, and Jahnsen found making the record amid the wintry scapes of Reykjavik an inspiring process. Jahnsen played almost all of the instruments across the four tracks here, carefully fashioning a gossamer bed of folk-pop sounds to lay her vocal ruminations on love, life and mortality on. It’s a listen that recalls the stripped emotionacrunch of Bon Iver, sumptuous textures of Poliça and bravery of Laura Marling.

In 2013 Jahnsen brought her unique sound to The Great Escape, Secret Garden Party and Reeperbahn festivals, as well as venues across Europe as tour support to the likes of Karl Hyde of Underworld fame, Moddi and Icelandic superstar-in-the-making Ásgeir

Blood Orange plays London at long last!

After splitting with his band the Test Icicles and then recording as Lightspeed Champion, singer/songwriter Devonté Hynes switched up styles again, and began making music under the pseudonym Blood Orange. For Hynes, a cult favorite who had also worked on the side as a songwriter for some popular artists (including Florence + the Machine, Theophilus London, and Solange Knowles) and as a fashion consultant for Jay-Z’s Rocawear, Blood Orange seemed like his most streamlined project, with R&B grooves and atmospheric chillwave keyboards. The debut album Coastal Grooves was released in the summer of 2011 on Domino Records. Along with spending more time working with Solange in 2012 — the results being the EP True that was released in late 2012 — Hynes also found time to collaborate with Nedelle Torrisi, Sky Ferreira, Foals, and even Britney Spears. Hynes’ next move as Blood Orange was to release the decidedly ’80s and ’90s-influenced follow-up album Cupid Deluxe in late 2013. Although his pal Solange didn’t guest on the album, many friends did, including Caroline Polachek of Chairlift, Friends’ Samantha Urbani, Dirty Projectors’ David Longstreth, and Clams Casino.

The drama. The narrative arc. The pay-off. Listening to Love Form, it’s all there. From the opening tantalising tendrils of ‘The Messenger’ to the blaze of distortion, intimately conversational piano and persistent snare keeping things tight that follow, the debut
album by the West Country’s Charlie Jones immediately puts you in the mood.

“A piece like that is a kind of selfish gospel music,” says Charlie. “It represents the emotion of undertaking something which is deeply enjoyable, yet you know to be very bad indeed to be indulging in. That very fact feels so good.”

Charlie Jones is what we call a musician’s musician. His bass playing has been called upon by the likes of Robert Plant, Page & Plant, Siouxsie Sioux and, latterly, Goldfrapp. His talents as a composer saw him win a Grammy for co-writing on the Robert Plant
and Alison Krauss album Raising Sand.

On Love Form, Charlie finds his own métier, stretching out to two sides of instrumental languor and tension that only a well-seasoned writer and player could conjure. Stylish, intellectual and sensuous noir of this ilk is at best hinted at or sampled these days but here we are blessed with the talents of a composer able to fully immersive himself in the depths of such kaleidoscopic
dimensions.

ANNACALVI.COM

We are pleased to announce Anna Calvi’s the beautiful All Saints Church in Brighton as part of her February tour.

Her new album One Breath, is a bold and confident record that begins an exciting new chapter in this uniquely talented artist’s career. One Breath is a more personal record than its Mercury and Brit nominated predecessor. Reflective and vulnerable, it strikes a balance between optimism and despair, beauty and ugliness. The fiery elements of Anna’s debut remain, but One Breath is more instinctive and urgent, revealing a wider spectrum of textures and emotion.

“One Breath is the moment before you’ve got to open yourself up, and it’s about how terrifying that is. It’s scary and it’s thrilling. It’s also full of hope, because whatever has to happen hasn’t happened yet.” – Anna Calvi

One Breath is out on October 7th via Domino. Watch the album trailer here
