AINE CAHILL

SPECIAL GUESTS
The Kings Head
Thursday 12 April 2018

8PM £9 ADV 18+

From the moment Áine Cahill made her TV debut to millions in 2016, she was set for fame. Plucked from a pub stage at Glastonbury to perform live on the BBC’s festival coverage, before Coldplay’s set on the Sunday night, she mesmerised viewers who could scarcely believe that she wasn’t already a star. In fact, the then 21 year old was a naïve newcomer from a village in County Cavan, being managed by her postman.

This year will mostly be devoted to writing and releasing new material, although Áine continues to play live and a few festivals have been booked. She has been co-writing, but only on her own terms. “I’ve got here on my own songs,” she says. “I’m happy to have help and I won’t be a bitch, but I’ll never sing a song that isn’t me. I have to be myself.”

Forthcoming track Psycho is case in point. Produced with Courage, it’s a sassy, spectral beauty steeped in beats and strings.

Stranger Things – 2nd Late Show

Barbican
Saturday 7 April 2018
Sold Out

£25 ADV 10.30PM

Are you ready to enter the upside down again?

Due to phenomenal demand – second late show added for Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein to play their soundtrack to cult TV hit Stranger Things live.

Serving up a hearty slice of ’80s nostalgia, Stranger Things became the runaway TV hit of 2016, inviting viewers into the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. Dixon and Stein’s soundtrack – heavily indebted to the work of Jean-Michel Jarre and John Carpenter – is inseparable from the adventures of Eleven and the gang, with the feelings of childhood comradery and unsettling eeriness amplified by the synth-laden score. For this show the duo will perform music not only from the first series, but also from the just-released second series – for which they have added new elements and styles of compositions – alongside a supernatural neon light show.

Dixon and Stein are half of Austin based S U R V I V E, and won a Grammy Award for the work on Stranger Things series one. The show is the brainchild of the Duffer Brothers and stars Winona Ryder – the much anticipated second series was released on the 27 October.

Tickets on sale Friday at 10am.

EYOE and Convergence Present Charlotte Gainsbourg.

From the first steps to the first words, to the first kisses … Life is made of first times that lead to a series of last times, Charlotte Gainsbourg speaks about herself in her latest album Rest. Uncompromising self portrait, acclaimed by the international press, as one of 2017 best albums (Pitchfork, The Guardian, The Independent, Les Inrockuptibles…). The album is produced by SebastiAn, from the label Ed Banger, his background in electronic music accorded with Charlotte’s desire for a sound with a disquieting, mechanistic edge. After having been surrounded in the past by Beck’s musicians, on Coachella’s stage and around the world, and then Connan Mockasin a few years later, Charlotte Gainsbourg is back on stage.

As part of Convergence Festival 2018.
