Very excited to announce that Shock Machine will headline The Pickle Factory on 9 June!

Shock Machine is the solo project from Mercury Prize winning, BRIT Award and Ivor Novello nominated songwriter James Righton.

‘Shock Machine’, the beautiful, eponymous introduction to this new project, was recorded in a cabin in the south of France with the help of producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, Haim) and mixed in Atlanta by Ben H Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, Deerhunter).

Julianna Barwick’s revelatory third full-length, Will, is a surprising left turn for the Brooklyn experimental artist. Conceived and self-produced over the past year in a variety of locations, the ominous, compelling Will is a departure from 2013’s Alex Somers-produced Nepenthe. If that last record conjured images of gentle, thick fog rolling over desolate mountains, then the self-produced Will is a late afternoon thunderstorm, a cathartic collision of sharp and soft textures that sounds looming and restorative all at once.

Julianna Barwick will headline The Pickle Factory on June 8th.

Due to unforseen circumstances this show has moved from Village Underground to Islington Assembly Hall. All original tickets remain valid.

It’s been five years since Peter Bjorn And John have wowed the world with their musical talents. During a fruitful period of disappearance, the trio have built their own studio, started a record label, and toiled to perfect a formula for effortless sounding pop music that has taken them a huge amount of effort. Now the 3-piece are back with a new album and a headline show at Islington Assembly Hall!

MAX POPE

Wednesday 1 June 2016

£6 ADV 8PM

The teenager from Hertfordshire released his first track ‘Brazil’ in 2014 which showed huge promise, recalling Jamie T right at the start of his career and with all the swagger and confidence of a seasoned musician.

Since then his profile has continued to grow. He signed a management deal with Foals’ team, won Glastonbury’s rising talent competition, played a slew of London gigs which showed great promise and has since released his second track.

‘Paracetemol’ isn’t likely to be making radio station a-lists anytime soon – at six minutes long it’s clearly not meant to – but it does further drive home how inventive he is. With ‘Brazil’, it was easy to pigeonhole him as a UK indie troubadour, a little bit oikish and with a nifty talent for mainstream melody. Here, he’s gone in a more electronic direction, with Tom Vek keys drilling away in the background and a vocal that’s bruised and vulnerable.

LUH

SPECIAL GUESTS
XOYO
Tuesday 31 May 2016

LUH is Ellery Roberts and Ebony Hoorn, the lovers of the title. Ellery’s name might be familiar as the frontman of WU LYF, the incendiary Manchester four-piece whose rhetoric, imagery and solitary album described a new model for the untamed fury of youth.

Ebony and Ellery met in the band’s dying days in 2013. Ellery returned to Manchester from touring and met Ebony (visiting from Amsterdam) in the derelict squat that a group of Manchester based musicians shared. Both are artists in their own respective fields – Ebony is a recent graduate of the audio-visual department in Amsterdam’s prestigious Rietveld Academy – and the two quickly found themselves in constant contact over the internet, sharing dreams and inspiration. Eventually Ellery left his refuge in London to make a life with Ebony in Amsterdam, and they were able to focus on a shared life project in totality.

“It’s interesting living and creating together,” says Ellery. “Fundamentally we had this instantaneous feeling that we wanted to do this together, to explore life together. And music for me is an instinctual way to explore, document life.”

We’re excited to hear the results live at XOYO on 31 May!
