SOLD OUT

We are happy to announce Meilyr Jones at The Waiting Room on 22nd April.

With a copy of Byron’s Don Juan and the memoirs of Hector Berlioz under his arm Meilyr Jones embarked on a journey to Italy, drawn to the spirit of adventure he felt in the Romantic poets and the gentleness and roughness of Rome as he imagined it. He found it to be as free and wild and magical as he had imagined. With a new feeling of freedom he started to write new songs and music and since then has attempted to bring together a collection of his year during 2013, using field recordings, orchestral movements, band songs, live and home recordings, karaoke recordings and new music made of recycled youtube videos, to try and give a little impression of that impression created and instilled in him.

XOYO
Tuesday 14 April 2015

£9.50 ADVANCE

We are very excited to announce a show with the brilliant Sinkane at XOYO in Shoreditch on Tuesday 14 April after their sold out show at Oslo at the end of last year.

Slinky, heartfelt third from Sudanese funkmaster on City Slang in Europe and DFA Stateside. As musical director of ‘Atomic Bomb!’, the roving all-star show celebrating the songs of William Onyeabor, Sinkane’s Ahmed Gallab has been knee-deep in exuberant synth-funk. With ‘Mean Love’, however, the Brooklyn based Sudanese singer / multi instrumentalist delivers a more contemplative, intimate offering  that in its own heavy and soulful way is just as thrilling. Gallab draws on West Africa funk and the superfly vibe of 70s Motown for ‘Mean Love’s backbone, over which, in dreamy falsetto, he lays down the sweetest melodies, which give sultry cuts such as ‘Moonstruck’, ‘Hold Tight’ and ‘Yacha’ – each a tale flushed with romance – a curiously timeless quality.

We are thrilled to announce a show with the brilliant Daniel Lanois at Islington Assembly Hall on Tuesday 14 April.

Danield Lanois comes to London following the release of his new album Flesh And Machine.

LANOIS has a refreshingly optimistic attitude toward his craft and the creative potential it still holds:“I’m always heading for the future and I’m always hoping I’m going to find the next dimension of sound. It’s my job to raise the spirit of sound. I’ve been able to do it a number of times in the past on other people’s records. Well, it’s still my job today to raise that spirit of sound and I’d like to think that I’ve done it on this record.”

Ghostpoet

CRUSHED BEAKS
Electric Brixton
Thursday 9 April 2015

£15

We are pleased to announce a show with Ghostpoet at Electric Brixton on the 9th April.

If you think you know multifaceted musician Ghostpoet, think again. While the past is important, this singular artist’s third studio album is a brave, confident stride into previously unexplored methodologies and untapped inspiration – it’s a reboot of sorts, the reinvention and distillation of traits that have so far made the man’s reputation. Nothing here sounds like a style stuck on repeat.

In some respects ‘Shedding Skin’ harks back to Ghostpoet‘s Mercury Prize – nominated debut of 2011,‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’, in its assembly at least: then, he was free of baggage, loose-limbed and able to capture a moment and spin it into a song; now, he’s in a comparable place, but has skilfully circumvented potential complacency by opening the door to creative collaboration while also placing strict conditions on the recording process.

‘Shedding Skin’ is the biggest and boldest album yet from an artist who has always stood apart from the sound-alikes. He’s still learning, just as we all are. He’s still growing, just as we all are. But this is the beginning of the next phase for Ghostpoet, and a collection that sets a new precedent as his very best work yet, a dream record to accompany our journey through whatever hands we’re dealt, one day at a time.
